Unemployment Tax Rate Increase

Over the past few months we have received a number of concerns from employers that the annual notice received in November 2020 from the Department of Workforce Solutions reflected an increase by as much as much as 1000%.

RRRCC has helped a number of businesses by reporting the issue to Workforce Solutions and having them review the increase.

Workforce Solutions has advised RRRCC that the department will be conducting a rate review on behalf of businesses that have a higher rate than the prior year. Your current quarterly payment due date for UI has been extended to May 30th, so you can have time to review and appeal your rate. If you already paid the increased tax, the amount you may have overpaid will be credit to future payments.

Example: November 2019 Total Rate .33% and November 2020 Total Rate 2.9%
To the Chambers understanding from the Special session last year, the total rate for these two years should be similar if layoffs occurred due to the Pandemic. If this is the case please go ahead and appeal your UI total rate to ensure your will be reviewed.
