SANDOVAL COUNTY CLERK ASKS THE PUBLIC TO ASSIST WITH VOTER ROLLS ACCURACY EFFORT
Program is designed to update the voter rolls and to increase voter confidence in elections
Bernalillo, N.M., May 22—Sandoval County Clerk Anne Brady-Romero announced today that the Clerk’s Office is initiating a dedicated effort to further improve the accuracy of the voter rolls and that the public’s help is needed to do so. “This Office is committed to upholding the integrity of our election process and to continue to have the voter’s confidence through that process. A first step is having accurate voter rolls,” Ms.
Brady-Romero explained. “We need the public’s help to achieve this commitment. Family members are asked
to share documentation showing that a loved one is now deceased, and also, the public needs to provide
information that proves an individual’s change of address. By doing so, the voter rolls are properly updated,
and individuals who changed residences know for whom and where they can vote in an election.”
There are four ways to submit changes: website, email, phone, or in person. “Our goal is simple: voter rolls accuracy and voter confidence. This is why we have made sure that our residents can provide these updates easily, and in a manner that is most comfortable to them,” Ms. Brady-Romero said. The County Clerk also shared that a Voter Rolls Update Event will be held at the County Administration Building, 1500 Idalia Road, Bernalillo, NM, 87004, on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. County Clerk’s Office staff will facilitate any updates. Voter rolls accuracy is not just important during major elections, Ms. Brady-Romero pointed out, as elections are held every year. Even-numbered years are dedicated to Municipal, Primary, and General elections and odd-numbered years are for the Regular Local Elections (such as School Boards, PIDs (Public Improvement Districts) and TIDDs (Tax Increment Development Districts), Water Conservation Districts, and Municipalities (if they opt-in). Elections are managed and overseen by the Clerk’s Office Bureau of Elections (BOE). The BOE conducts all elections, and the preparation, execution, and reporting of each election takes several months. Responsibilities also include maintaining the electronic voting machines used in the elections. In addition, BOE recruits, trains, and manages a large team of employees dedicated to any given election.
Sandoval County, the fastest-growing county in New Mexico, encompasses 3,714 square miles of diverse geography and has a population of approximately 151,000 people. It includes the incorporated municipalities of Bernalillo, Cuba, Corrales, Jemez Springs, Rio Rancho, San Ysidro, and the Town of Cochiti Lake as well as numerous unincorporated communities, and all or portions of 12 Indian Pueblos and Tribal Nations.
