RIO RANCHO, N.M. – On Monday, May 30, the City of Rio Rancho will recognize Memorial Day with a remembrance ceremony honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to their country. The ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park, and will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include the laying of a wreath to honor the fallen and a 21-gun salute. Speakers will include Rio Rancho Mayor Greggory D. Hull and various military personnel. Mayor Hull will also pay special tribute to a fallen veteran and their family at this year’s ceremony.
Military boots representing fallen service members will also be on display at Veterans Park. The boots will be laid out in military formation and will have a personalized portrait of a fallen veteran alongside each one. The boots representing fallen service members will be on display at Veterans Park as a powerful, temporary memorial. Both the memorial ceremony and boot display are organized by Rio Rancho’s own Marine Corps League – Rocky Mountain Division, American Legion Post 118, VFW Post 5890, Women Veterans of New Mexico, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
