RIO RANCHO, N.M. –The City of Rio Rancho is excited to announce the grand opening of the much anticipated Broadmoor Senior Center, located at 3241 Broadmoor Boulevard. On Friday, September, 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the City will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to celebrate the new facility. We invite all residents to join us for this celebration.
“The City of Rio Rancho continues to invest in the quality of life of our citizens with the expansion of senior services and resources to City Center,” said Mayor Gregg Hull. “Because of the great partnership between the City and UNM Health Sciences Center, we are able to provide much-needed and long-awaited resources to more of our senior population.”
The completed Broadmoor Senior Center will host a variety of life-long learning activities and services for Rio Rancho and area senior citizens, such as health, fitness and nutrition classes; art, cultural and technology activities and classes; social activities and events; and hosting weekday meal service provided by Sandoval County Senior Services.
Ribbon Cutting and Open House Schedule
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and will feature speakers Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull, Aging and Long-Term Services Department Cabinet Secretary Hotrum-Lopez, and UNM SRMC President and CEO Jamie Silva-Steele. Tours of the Senior Center and an open house will follow until 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The Broadmoor Senior Center is the second senior center in the City of Rio Rancho. In 2016, the State of New Mexico’s Aging and Long-Term Services Department awarded $3.4 million from voter-approved General Obligation Bonds for Senior Facilities to the City of Rio Rancho, with $3,366,000 for the purpose of planning, designing and constructing a new senior Center in the City of Rio Rancho in Sandoval County; and the remaining $34,000 allocated to Art In Public Places. Additionally, in 2020, the City of Rio Rancho and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center entered into a land-lease partnership enabling the senior center to be constructed at its current location. Construction of Phase 1 of the facility began in July 2020 and was completed in the summer of 2021.
